Bear Goes Home

Bear Goes Home

Ashilta Kumar February 20, 2021

Ding-a-ling! “…a dog is a great addition to any family!” The gray form of a man and woman passed through the doorway. Hope filled me as I noticed they were heading my way!.

After 3 weeks in the pound watching people pass me by, here was my chance! I looked around my cold, gray cage and imagined a warm home filled with love. I could already see myself curled up in front of the fire in the fireplace. The gray towel I lay on became a fluffy rug. The yips and growls of the other animals in the pound became the laughter of children come to play. It would have a big dog house outside with lots of toys. I could already imagine a bright blue door welcoming me to my new home.

Clang! The sound of the cage door opening brought me back. “You’ll love Penny! She is very sweet and playful.” Arms reached past me and picked up a tiny white dog. Yip! “Oh she is just precious! I know Claire will love her for Christmas.”

As the voices trailed off, I realized that they hadn’t wanted me after all. Of course they didn’t want you. Who wants an ugly brown mutt without a name? I shook my head and rested it down on my paws. A single tear slid from my eye as I realized I would be stuck here forever in this dull gray cage.

Suddenly, a flash of blue caught my eye. I looked up and saw a boy with bright blue eyes, face pressed up against the cage. Thump thump my tail starts wagging hopefully.

“Mom! Look at this one!” A lady came over with the same sparkling blue eyes. “Oh isn’t he a cutie!?” We’ll take this one home and call him Bear”.

I am a publisher, wife and a mother of two boys and have a dog named Ace. Ace is a miniature golden retriever. Before we adopted Ace, my doctor told me that I was allergic to many things, one of them being dogs. My husband and kids always wanted a pet dog but because of my allergy we couldn’t have one. One day my husband showed me a picture of the cutest pup ever. I couldn’t resist the cuteness and was ready to work around my allergy and adopted the puppy. At first I used to keep my distance while my husband and kids played with Ace. Slowly I started to get closer and before I knew it, I was spending hours playing with Ace. I know that our bodies can repair itself but this one was because of my love for the fury friends. My motivation to start a blog and share stories, tips, and tricks came from what I went through. Please keep on visiting my blog to maintain the awesome status.
