You will often hear stories about dogs that have been separated from their owners. While some of these owners have already accepted the truth that they will never see them again, others thankfully get their happy endings. Kate Olson’s story is one of them.
Kate, who hails from New Hampshire, has celebrated the safe return of her Golden Retriever mix named Walter. The dog had escaped last year and went missing for many months.
Kate knows that she will find Walter
Three-year-old Walter managed to survive on his own for almost a year. And it could be considered a big miracle.
Kate recounted where everything started. She was visiting her boyfriend’s parents in St. Louis, Missouri for the holidays when Walter bolted out. The dog was apparently on a walk with the parents of her boyfriend, but Walter got so frightened that he managed to get himself out of his collar and ran away.
Kate, who got Walter when he was just eight weeks old, decided to extend her stay in St. Louis to look for the dog. She had been searching for two weeks only to find no one. It was hard for her to go back home knowing that Walter was not with her.
But Kate never gave up. She told the TV show Good Morning America that there was a part of her that always knew she would get him back.
Kate and Walter’s heartwarming reunion
Kate continued her search. She posted announcements over social media and even created a Facebook group dedicated to the cause.
One member of the Facebook group saw another post of a dog sighting and relayed the information to Kate. Thankfully, the dog in the post was Walter.
Kate flew back to Missouri where Walter was coincidentally caught by a trapping organization about three hours after she landed. She said that seeing Walter after almost a year was extremely emotional. She was in shock that she had to keep her composure.
Walter went home physically unharmed, something that Kate was grateful for.
