Dog Training Collars

Dog Training Collars

Ashilta Kumar July 29, 2021

Training collars are pretty effective in supplementing the standard training process of dogs. They modify the behavior and attitude of your dog positively, so they are popular among dog owners these days. The use of a training collar brings multiple benefits. On the other hand, certain controversies also surround them. Some deem their use as cruelty to the animals. Although there are some drawbacks, no one can deny the benefits of training collars. This article will talk about different types of training collars used and their usefulness in dog training.

Mechanical Collars

The most commonly used mechanical collar is choke collar. Some people also call it pinch collar.

Choke collars have small thorns on the inner side, but they aren’t sharp enough to hurt your dog. Pinch collars are effective for dogs who try to pull the leash away during a walk or try to pick unwanted items.

Also best known for use in the case of large dogs. They’re effective in tackling aggression in large dogs.

E-Collars

E-collars are the latest and most popular dog training collars these days. They use electronic stimuli. Controlled by the remote, this stimulus can be increased or decreased depending on the dog’s size. There are many types of  E-collars.

Remote-controlled vibrating e-collars are appropriated for deaf dogs who can’t hear the command. They produce vibrations that make the dog attentive and bring his attention to the owner.

Anti-bark collars are used to prevent excessive barking in dogs. These collars go around the neck of a dog. When the dog barks and the frequency of the bark exceed the threshold level, an electronic shock is dispatched to the dog. Some anti-bark collars use a different mechanism to keep your dog off excessive barking. For example, some use ultrasonic waves while some spray citronella, a chemical to stop barking in dogs.

Anti-bark collars are automatic collars and do not require the attention of the owner for their functioning. Anti-bark collars make it perfect for owners who leave for work with their dogs at home. But the problem with this collar is that electric shock can make your dog depressed and may leave him bamboozled in public. The intensity of the shock should be set according to the size of the dog. Also, the collar does not recognize your dog’s bark, so even if some other dog barks, this collar will get activated.

Final Words

Dog training collars have multiple benefits in preventing bad habits and teaching obedience to dogs. But can only obtain these benefits if the owner knows how to use training collars. The use of a collar without proper precautions and training can cause more damage to the physical and mental health of the dog than good.

I am a publisher, wife and a mother of two boys and have a dog named Ace. Ace is a miniature golden retriever. Before we adopted Ace, my doctor told me that I was allergic to many things, one of them being dogs. My husband and kids always wanted a pet dog but because of my allergy we couldn’t have one. One day my husband showed me a picture of the cutest pup ever. I couldn’t resist the cuteness and was ready to work around my allergy and adopted the puppy. At first I used to keep my distance while my husband and kids played with Ace. Slowly I started to get closer and before I knew it, I was spending hours playing with Ace. I know that our bodies can repair itself but this one was because of my love for the fury friends. My motivation to start a blog and share stories, tips, and tricks came from what I went through. Please keep on visiting my blog to maintain the awesome status.
