People will usually not pay attention to a stray dog. However, there are also many people who are willing to risk very own their lives to save each one of these unfortunate animals.
A three-year-old stray dog slipped into an open sanitary drain in Houston, Texas. The sewer was 20 feet deep. Thankfully, the dog did not sustain any significant injuries, although he was undoubtedly terrified because it was dark and freezing below.
Thankfully, the Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering had an active project near the sewer. They acted promptly to save the poor dog.
Later, the dog was named Julian. His rescuers dubbed him “Sewer Sam” as well.
Even though he was terrified because he was surrounded by strangers, Julian remained calm and friendly with his rescuers. He was not angry with his rescuers.
The rescuers wrapped him in a blanket and gave him a warm hug as soon as he emerged from the sewer.
Julian was transported to the BARC Animal Shelter for evaluation and potential adoption if no one claimed him during the holding period. BARC Animal Shelter is Houston’s animal rescue and adoption center. It is the only shelter in the Houston area that accepts dogs of any breed, temperament, health, or circumstance.
The story of Julian’s rescue was not yet over, though. Later, the Houston Department of Public Works and Engineering decided to adopt him as their new mascot! The announcement was posted on the Facebook page of BARC.
The citizens of Houston were pleased for Julian. They also praised the workers’ efforts to rescue the dog from a sewer. People were also astonished that the government had decided to adopt him permanently and provide him with shelter.
Thank you, BARC and Houston Public Works and Engineering Department, for providing Julian with a permanent home!
