Shey is a 14-year-old senior miniature poodle who had been surrendered to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa when his family relocated to another city. Though he did not want to be separated from his family, he was left with no other choice. At that time, he was already deaf with rotted teeth because of his old age. Being dumped at the shelter and spending months there without a family made him sad.
Luckily, Tristan and his mom visited the shelter to look for a dog they could adopt. The staff led them to Shey and it was love at first sight. They immediately took Shey into the hug room and he settled into Tristan’s lap. After a few months of loneliness, the sweet dog finally found a new family.
Tristan was also happy that he met Shey and though he was a senior dog, his age did not stop him from giving love and affection to his new-found friend. It also seemed that Tristan understood Shey’s special needs because he knew how to handle him. Before they took the dog home, the shelter staff had to review his medical history and while waiting, Tristan took notes about vaccinations. There was no doubt that Tristan and Shey were a perfect match.
When they finally brought Shey home, the two became inseparable. They slept together every night and bonded with each other. Since Tristan’s family runs a clothing business, they have organized a fundraising program called Tristan Tuesday. The program will donate a percentage of sales made every Tuesday to the Animal Rescue League.
Tristan’s genuine concern and love for Shey will not only save one life but dozens more in the future. Since Tristan Tuesday became popular among avid buyers, they hoped to raise more so they could provide a forever home to dogs who are in need of a family to take care of them.
