A puppy named Lucy was found with a fishing line wrapped tightly around her snout. Aside from being emaciated and sick, Lucy was a shell of a dog who was also emotionally and mentally scarred by her ordeal. Based on how Lucy was found, rescuers believe that she was going to be slaughtered for meat.
Thankfully, Lucy escaped and wandered into the building site where she was found and rescued. The people who found and rescued Lucy acted fast and rushed her to the nearest veterinarian to get treated. As soon as Lucy arrived at the vet, the fishing line was removed. Unfortunately, the vets found that Lucy also had parvovirus.
Parvovirus is a deadly canine disease and Lucy was only given a 50 percent chance of survival. Over the next few days, the vets and vet technicians worked hard to keep Lucy alive. Thankfully, after two weeks of treatment, Lucy started to show signs of recovery and she was finally moved into foster care.
Everything seemed to be going well for Lucy but only after spending a day in her foster home, Lucy started to act strangely. This time, she was tested positive for distemper. Although her foster mom believed that Lucy was strong and resilient, Lucy was still recovering from parvovirus and Lucy’s carer believed that Lucy won’t survive this time.
Lucy’s immune system was already weakened by the parvovirus and she was underweight and weak. Despite Lucy’s bleak prognosis, her foster mom didn’t give up on her. With no appetite to eat, Lucy was syringe-fed with bone broth every few hours.
Lucy’s foster mom gave her all the love and care she needed to recover. Eventually, Lucy started to recover slowly. Lucy was doing well with her physical recovery and she was now ready to start to heal emotionally. Lucy didn’t trust humans at all and she refused to make eye contact with anyone.
For two months, Lucy lived with a woman named Prue who founded an animal rescue organization called Mission Pawsible. Slowly but surely, Lucy started to trust humans again. Thanks to the love and care that Lucy received from all of the people who rescued her, she started to believe that she can trust humans again.
Lucy’s road to recovery may have been long but seeing her come out of her shell and become a happy dog again was worth it. Lucy is a great example of how love and patience and go a long way in saving dogs like her. Here’s a link to the heartwarming video showing Lucy’s journey to recovery.
