Barbie, a Chihuahua, lived in an enclosed space by the freeway for who knew how long. She had no direct access to food or water and only relied on food scraps given by motorists. A lot of people wanted to help her but she was so fearful of humans that no one managed to get her to safety until a woman named Toi Crawford spotted her.
Toi immediately made the decision to help the poor dog. She went to the freeway every day to bring food and water to ensure the pup did not starve. At times, she also spent a few minutes with it in an attempt to build trust and eventually get close enough to touch it.
But a few days quickly went by and Toi realized that she was not any closer to rescuing the dog. And so, she contacted Hope For Paws Animal Rescue. She’s a huge fan and supporter of the group and she knew that if there’s anyone who could save the dog, it’s Eldad, the head rescuer of the organization.
Toi agreed to meet the rescuer onsite, and Eldad tagged along with his rescue partner Loreta. Once they were all at the rescue location, they searched for all possible escape routes and secured them with portable plastic fencing. They laid out and plan and ensured no room for error or the mission would fall into pieces.
Eldad was the one to approach the dog first. But because Loreta had the net, he asked her to try and capture it first, while Toi stayed on guard. As soon as the pup saw them coming, it took a run for it. Luckily, Eldad caught it with his snare and Loreta completely secured it with the net.
The terrified Chihuahua fought back and attempted to escape. When she realized she had nowhere to go, she froze in fear. She thought she was in danger, and it took her a little while to realize that the people in front of her were there to help.
Eldad, Loreta, and Toi helped calm Barbie down. While they soothe her, a driver got off his truck and ran toward them. He handed them a water bottle and asked them to give it to the pup. It’s his way of helping.
Soon, Barbie joined her foster family, and she did great under their care. The once terrified puppy was finally ready for her new home.
