Squish was meant to be euthanized because he did not look like a normal dog in any way. This shelter dog has been dealing with numerous physical defects that were caused by bad experiences.
As a result of all the torture he endured previously, Squish has a hard time opening his mouth, and his head swelled severely. Nevertheless, Squish’s health issues never prevented him from being the lovable, funny dog he was destined to be.
The beginning of Squish’s life was not all rainbows and butterflies. Veterinarians at the animal shelter agreed to care for Squish when they discovered him on the street when he was around four months old. The vets wanted to test if Squish’s health conditions would improve while he was receiving regular antibiotics and pain medication. Fortunately, Squish responded positively to the therapy, and the head swelling began to go down.
Unfortunately, as Squish grew older and larger, his face began to sag, making it difficult for him to open and close his mouth. Squish experienced difficulty eating and consequently lost a significant amount of weight.
The majority of the vets agreed that Squish should be euthanized to end his suffering. However, one of the vets at the shelter decided that Squish should seek a second opinion, so he was sent to a different location for a second medical examination.
With CT scans and x-rays, Squish’s new veterinarians determined that the dog sustained purposeful blunt force trauma. Even though Squish is a lovable puppy, his surgeons and physicians could not believe he was subjected to such awful cruelty. To improve Squish’s quality of life, they determined to conduct major jaw surgery.
The life-saving operation performed on Squish opened new possibilities for him, as he was not only able to eat without much difficulty, but was also adopted by a loving family.
