Dogs love to go outside, to the park to walk, run and play. That is why it is not uncommon for them to show that anxiety to eat the world and, with it, to be pulled by the leash. But even if it is something normal, it is still annoying for its owners. Especially when they are very strong dogs that can even make us fall. To avoid problems of this type, we are going to teach you tricks to prevent the dog from pulling on the leash.
Calm And Patience
Many puppies pull on the leash because they are very excited. Sometimes they are agitated even before leaving the house, which makes it a really stressful activity from the beginning. So, the first thing you need is to arm yourself with patience, if you despair, they will notice it, and you will only transmit your despair also, this is not going to help you at all to the desired goal.
Firmness Above All
Do not confuse calm and patience with being permissive, you must also be very clear that you must exercise your authority to make them notice it and be very firm to make it clear what you want to achieve. Never act as if your pet has control over you.
While Learning To Behave
Ensure your pet is comfortable, with a collar that is neither too loose nor too tight, preferably choose a sturdy leash and avoid extendable or variable leashes. Another great choice as your dog learns to behave is to choose a place as quiet as possible, such as a lonely street or something similar, where it cannot be distracted by other nervous pets, cats, children playing, or other distracting or motivating elements for its agitation. This is only at the beginning, later you can change the leash or walk in other places.
If you cannot find a quiet place while you teach, you can change the schedule, choose a time that does not circulate as many people, pets, or other distractions, perhaps earlier in the morning.
Time to Train Your Dog
Once you start walking, loosen the leash without tense, in which you begin to notice that your dog pulls the leash, stop immediately and draw him to your side at the same time that you say “Easy” or “No” with a lot firmly and in a good tone of voice, and do not move forward until your puppy has calmed down.
Once calm, congratulate him, give him a caress, and you can even give him a treat like a cookie and continue walking. If you notice that he is pulling the rope again or deviating from the path you have chosen, repeat again, that is, stop again and wait for him to calm down. If your dog is just very young, or perhaps it is a very energetic breed, you must have even more patience and remember the first tip that we have told you.
There are corrective collars, as you read it, corrective collars or to train your pet that gives the dog a slight shock or harmless vibration that can be accompanied by firmly saying “Quiet,” the idea is that your dog associates your order with the feel and reacts more immediately and effectively. You must remember to have this necklace at the lowest possible level.
If it seems a bit cruel to use this type of “shock” technique, you can give your dog a slight pull towards you, not very strong but very forceful and firm every time you notice that it begins to shake and pull on the leash. You must remember the type of collar you use and that it is not too tight so that you do not harm your dog.
