When Argo joined the Fresno Police Department in California 18 months ago, his handler, Officer Brian Sturgeon, immediately noticed how dedicated the two-year-old Belgian Malinois was. He was always focused on their work every time they were out on patrol, making him the perfect canine companion on duty.
However, it was only just recently when Officer Sturgeon and the rest of the police department realized how loyal and dedicated Argo really was to his job. You see, around two weeks ago, the department responded to a call regarding a man named Carlos Castanos, who was holding a woman against her will.
Officer Sturgeon and Argo joined the team to apprehend the suspect. However, the mission didn’t go as smoothly as they hoped when Carlos made a run for it as soon as the officers arrived at the scene. Unfortunately for him, Argo was already in position outside the fence to stop him in his tracks.
The pup was already prepared to immobilize the suspect, but before he could do so, Carlos pulled a knife out and began assaulting him. His dog even joined in the attack, too, and managed to bite Argo. Despite his injuries, though, the K9 officer stayed engaged throughout the whole ordeal, dedicated to protecting his handler and colleagues.
When they finally de-escalated the situation, Officer Sturgeon immediately drove the wounded Argo to a nearby vet to receive the medical care he needed. There, they discovered that he had been stabbed at least six times. Fortunately, his care team managed to get him into emergency surgery right away, and he responded well to the treatment.
By the looks of it, Argo would make a full recovery sometime soon. And true enough, the pup and his handler were back at work almost two weeks later, ready to fight crime once again. Look at the adorable Argo here.
