Pit bulls have always been thought of as aggressive and dangerous dogs. Their reputation usually precedes them, with many people wanting to stay away from the breed just because of a stereotype – a stereotype that the Pit Bull in this featured video is out to prove wrong.
In a house in a neighborhood in Oklahoma, a Pit Bull can be seen alone out in the yard. He is scared and he would growl at people. A concerned neighbor had noticed that the dog was always alone. And so, the neighbor decided to step up and called the rescue group Unchain Oklahoma to the scene.
When the rescue group arrived, they saw that the house was open. Packs of opened dog food littered the floor. Some belongings were still there, but the residents were nowhere to be found. That is until they learned that the family that used lived in the house moved after the husband was arrested for drug charges. Brutus, the Pit Bull in the yard, was left abandoned.
Thankfully for the dog, the rescue group got to him in time. With the help of Melody and her husband, they worked to socialize the once scared Pit Bull. He always listened to commands. He was easy to train.
They worked with Brutus for more than a year. Everyone who met the gentle giant knew that he was something special. But despite his gentle disposition, nobody wanted to adopt him.
That is until he met 2-year-old Jason. Jason’s family adopted Brutus 10 months earlier. During his first week in his new home, Amber Bragg, Jason’s mother, told Fox 23 News that Brutus hit her in the face while she was sleeping one night and woke her up. He then took Amber to Jason where Amber realized that her son was having a seizure.
As it turns out, Brutus has a unique ability where he can sense when Jason is about to have a seizure. Another time, when the 2-year-old was having another seizure, Brutus picked him up by his collar and started barking for Amber. He learned all of these without any specialized training.
Amber feels that Jason is in better hands when he is with Brutus than with anyone else. And that without Brutus, Jason would not be running around and playing like he is now.
The Bragg family got Brutus certified as a therapy dog, and he will soon start working with nursing homes where they live in Oklahoma. Watch Brutus’ story in the video below.
