Dog Training Rituals: This Is Why They Are Important

Ashilta Kumar June 28, 2021

In dog training, rituals can ensure safety. In this way, your four-legged friend learns better to show the behavior that you want them to do in certain situations. Repetition makes perfect in this case – and after all, rituals are nothing more than repetitions.

Give Structure

Every day, dogs face challenging or confusing situations: They have to wait patiently for their dog food, stay calm on the walk, even when spotting suspected prey, and sometimes wait for hours alone at home for their master or mistress. With rituals, you get your dog used to such situations and help him cope better. Feel free to develop your routines and pay attention to what your animal friend particularly likes.

Rituals For The Walk

In dog training, the walk is often a challenge because so many unpredictable things can happen. Many four-legged friends have, for example, to get used to at the meeting with other dogs or animals. It is, therefore, essential that your darling knows how to behave during a walk. Give him a treat at the beginning and the end to limit the time. For more relaxed walks care, you should attach great importance to calm and serenity in places where animals such as rabbits or deer often appear. In this way, he learns to remain calm here in the future as well. At the end of the walk, you can then give your four-legged friend a lot of scratching. As a result, he is looking forward to the end of the tour together, although he might have liked to have been on the road longer.

Routine When Eating

Dogs attach great importance to rituals, especially when it comes to feeding. Do not only pay attention to regular feeding times but also coordinate them with your meals. It is best to give your four-legged friend something to eat whenever you, for example, want to have your evening meal. So with a bit of training, you can prevent him from begging at the table. There is one more thing you can do: don’t let your dog start eating right after you’ve put down his food bowl. If he obediently waits for your permission before beginning to eat, there will be an extra treat. Rituals like this ensure obedience with a delicious reward afterward.

Good Night’s Sleep

In the evening, you can send your dog to bed with a ritual. He will surely enjoy it very much if you take him to his sleeping place and scratch it again extensively. In time he will learn that this means it is bedtime. If you greet him lovingly the following day, he will sleep well and know that you will still be there for him the next day.

I am a publisher, wife and a mother of two boys and have a dog named Ace. Ace is a miniature golden retriever. Before we adopted Ace, my doctor told me that I was allergic to many things, one of them being dogs. My husband and kids always wanted a pet dog but because of my allergy we couldn’t have one. One day my husband showed me a picture of the cutest pup ever. I couldn’t resist the cuteness and was ready to work around my allergy and adopted the puppy. At first I used to keep my distance while my husband and kids played with Ace. Slowly I started to get closer and before I knew it, I was spending hours playing with Ace. I know that our bodies can repair itself but this one was because of my love for the fury friends. My motivation to start a blog and share stories, tips, and tricks came from what I went through. Please keep on visiting my blog to maintain the awesome status.
